Cheap Microwaves
Once upon a time there were no such things as cheap microwaves. They were
big and expensive. They were very much a luxury item but as with pretty much any new technology over time the
prices tumbled and they became affordable for more and more people.
Today they're ubiquitous. They're found in almost every kitchen in the
country, office galleys, restaurants, airliners and many more places. The technology is "nothing new" now and
has been refined to the nth degree so they're quick and cheap to manufacture and with low cost far Eastern
manufacturing the prices have fallen to a phenomenally low level.

microwaves
Yes, you can still pay quite a bit of money for a microwave if you get a stainless
steel one with lots of features but at least now there are options. If you're looking for cheap microwaves
then you have plenty to chose from.
What can really be said today about a microwave though? When they first
appeared they were a marvel of modern technology, cooking in minutes (or even seconds for some things) with no
flame or hot glowing element, amazing!
Today we just look at them as a box on the work top that you sling food into prod
a few buttons and a minute or two later it goes "ping" or "bleep" and your food is done. Walk away and forget
about it. Isn't it amazing how quickly something goes from wonder to workhorse?
The now humble microwave may have reached ubiquitous status but many people don't
have the first idea how they work. Without getting into a physics lesson here...
Basically they fire microwave frequency electromagnetic waves (radio waves are
also electromagnetic waves as is light, they're all just at different frequencies) into the cooking chamber where
they bounce about off the metal walls and when they hit the food they are at such a frequency (the "resonant
frequency") as to vibrate water molecules and molecular vibration is basically heat.
Vibrate the molecules and the water in the food gets hot which heats the other
stuff although most of everything is water any way!
The use of radio waves in these ovens gave rise to an early microwave cooker
advertising slogan in Britain of "cook your food by radar!" since it wasn't long after the second world war where
radar played such a crucial part it was something people could relate to. Just as in the US using a microwave
was referred to as "nuking" food since the US had not long dropped atomic weapons on Japan and it was something the
public could relate to easily.
When you know how they work, messing about with the atoms of your food!, it might
bring back a little of the wonder that the previous generations felt when they first came out. They really
are amazing pieces of technology and yet totally taken for granted that we can harness that kind of power and for
such a small price.
Cheap microwaves are ideal for almost any food or beverage heating
requirement. Now a days all you have to decide is how do you want it to look and how many features over and
above a timer do you need/want. Well, there's a little more to it than that but not a lot.
The only other thing you really need to look at when deciding between cheap
microwaves is the power rating. That will me measured in Watts (W) of energy that the unit can push at the
item being heated. 700W is very common but over 1000W is hardly unusual either. Only a few years ago
450W units were very common but the power output of these devices has increased almost as quickly as the prices
have dropped!
